This spicy edamame recipe is easy and tastes incredible, thanks to garlic, ginger, and a spicy chili sauce. This is one of my favorite edamame recipes!

Spicy edamame with chili garlic sauce

You’ll often see steamed edamame with sea salt on restaurant menus, but in this recipe, we kick the flavors up a notch. You are going to love the ridiculously easy ginger, garlic, chili sauce!

Of all the recipes I’ve tried, this is seriously my favorite way to cook edamame. It’s so flavorful!

Key Ingredients

  • Edamame: These are young soybeans, which means the beans are soft and easy to eat. In this edamame recipe, we cook the beans inside their shell. You don’t eat the shell. I use my front teeth to scrape the beans out of the pod (they pop out easily). You can use shelled edamame in the recipe. I’ve included tips below the recipe.
  • Garlic and ginger: I use a tablespoon each of minced garlic and ginger. If you don’t want to buy fresh ginger, look in the produce section of your grocery store for the tubes of ginger (sometimes you can also find frozen pureed ginger).
  • Soy sauce, maple syrup, and toasted sesame oil: I love the simple sauce in this recipe. It’s a little salty from the soy sauce (or use tamari), sweet from maple syrup (or use honey), and toasty from the sesame oil.
  • Chili sauce: I love Sambal Oelek. It’s made with crushed raw red chiles, a little vinegar, and salt. It’s sold in most grocery stores. Check the grocery aisle where you’d buy soy sauce, and it should be there. If you can’t find it, Sriracha or Gochujang are good alternatives.

Find the full recipe with measurements below.

How to Make Spicy Edamame

Tip 1: Keep the shells on. You’ll start with fresh or frozen edamame in their shells. Since it’s more available where we live, we use frozen. You’ll steam or boil the edamame until the pods are bright green and heated through. I boil my edamame in the video in the recipe below.

Tip 2: Toss with our chili sauce. To make it, heat minced garlic and ginger in oil for a minute in a skillet on the stove. Now that the garlic and ginger are fragrant and have released their flavors into the oil, you can stir in soy sauce, maple syrup, and chili sauce. Toss the sauce with your cooked edamame pods, and you are ready to dig in.

Serving Suggestions

I love this as a snack or appetizer. It’s excellent served next to other appetizers like egg rolls, spring rolls, and homemade crab Rangoon.

You can make it a complete meal by serving it next to rice, fried rice, homemade sushi, and stir fries like this broccoli chicken stir fry or this veggie stir fry. I also love it with chicken teriyaki!

Watch Us Make the Recipe

You Will Need

1 pound fresh or frozen edamame in their pods

1 tablespoon avocado oil or other neutral oil

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger

2 tablespoons light soy sauce or tamari

2 to 3 teaspoons pure maple syrup, sugar or honey

1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

1/2 to 1 tablespoon Sambal Oelek or Sriracha

Directions

  • Cook Edamame
  • 1To boil edamame, bring a large pot of water to a boil and add a teaspoon of salt. Add the edamame and return to a boil. Cook until bright green and heated through, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain.

2To microwave edamame, place the edamame in a microwave-safe dish with 1/4 cup of water and a pinch of salt. Partially cover the dish with a plate, then microwave on high until bright green and heated through. Depending on your microwave, this can take 1 to 5 minutes.

  • Make the Spicy Sauce
  • 1Heat the oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and ginger. Cook until fragrant, but before they brown, 30 to 60 seconds.

2Remove the skillet from the heat, and then stir in the soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, and chili sauce.

3Taste and adjust with additional maple syrup to balance out the soy sauce or more chili sauce to make it spicier.

4Toss the edamame with the sauce and serve.

Adam and Joanne’s Tips

  • Sambal Oelek is a chili paste made with crushed raw red chiles, a little vinegar, and salt. It’s sold in most grocery stores, just check the aisle where you’d buy soy sauce.
  • Shelled edamame: You can toss cooked shelled edamame beans with the spicy sauce.

Healing Asian Soup with Ginger https://recipeprofessional.com/healing-asian-soup-with-ginger/ https://recipeprofessional.com/healing-asian-soup-with-ginger/#respond Wed, 08 Apr 2026 08:02:27 +0000 https://recipeprofessional.com/healing-asian-soup-with-ginger/

I first made this healing Asian Soup with Ginger for a food blogging friend who was going through chemotherapy, and it’s warm and comforting.

PIN Healing Asian Soup with Ginger!

Healing Asian Soup with Ginger finished soup in serving bowl

This Healing Asian Soup with Ginger is a recipe I created when a lovely food blogging friend was going through chemotherapy, and it’s a wonderful tummy soothing soup whenever you need something like that. Of course chicken broth is a well-used treatment for all kinds of sicknesses, so the soup has that for the base.

But the most important thing about the soup is lots of fresh ginger, simmered in the broth to bring out all the ginger flavor and healing properties! Ginger is known to help with stomach issues. And this soup is easy to make, because of course you don’t want to cook much when your stomach feels queasy. And while I hope you don’t need to make a soup like this one too often, it will be soothing and also tasty if you need it!

What ingredients do you need?

Easy Steps for Making Healing Asian Soup with Ginger:

(Scroll down for complete recipe with nutritional information.)

  1. Nothing sounds more healing to me than soup with lots of ginger to soothe the tummy. You can change the rest of this recipe any way you wish, but don’t skip the step of simmering the thick slices of ginger root in chicken stock.
  2. For a clear soup, strain the chicken broth after you’ve simmered the ginger. (You can skip this step, but definitely the soup will be prettier and more appetizing if it’s strained. A coffee filter works well if you don’t have a yogurt strainer like the one I used above.)
  3. Once you’ve infused the chicken stock with ginger and then strained it, add mushrooms, and cook one minute, then spinach and cook one minute more.
  4. Then add just the slightest bit of green onion for another few seconds. This is a soup that’s healing, soothing, and easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 4 thick slices fresh ginger root (or more)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup spinach leaves, sliced into thin ribbons
  • 1 green onion, very thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. In medium saucepan, bring chicken stock to a low simmer. (If you’re starting with canned chicken broth, I would simmer an additional 15-20 minutes to reduce the broth and make it more flavorful before you add the ginger.)
  2. Add ginger slices and let simmer at least 15 minutes or longer. (Taste to see if you have as much ginger flavor as you’d like.)
  3. If you’d like a clear soup, use a yogurt strainer or coffee filter to strain the ginger-infused chicken stock, then rinse pan and put strained stock back into pan. You can add a small amount of water if you feel the stock has reduced too much.
  4. While ginger simmers in stock, wash and slice mushrooms and thinly slice spinach leaves.
  5. Clean green onion and slice into very thin slices.
  6. Bring infused stock back to a low simmer, then add mushrooms and simmer 1 minute.
  7. Add sliced spinach and simmer one minute more.
  8. Turn off heat and add green onions, then serve soup hot, with chopsticks to eat the veggies after you drink the broth.

Notes

I used my homemade chicken stock for this soup, but if you don’t have homemade stock just use three cans of chicken broth and simmer to concentrate the flavor.

Historical Notes for this Recipe:
Barbara from Winos and Foodies was one of those wonderfully genuine and positive people that everyone loved, even those of us who lived halfway around the world from her and could only enjoy her spirit through the internet. When Barbara courageously shared the news that her cancer had returned, Ilva and Bron organized a giant virtual hug for Barbara to let her know how much healing energy was being sent her way. This soup was my contribution to that event. Sadly, Barbara lost her battle with cancer in 2012. At that time I dedicated a recipe to her memory, and her spirit is greatly missed in the food blogging world.

Baked Lemon Sole Recipe

Infused with zesty lime and topped with fiery ginger and chili butter sauce, this baked lemon sole dish is sure to awaken your taste buds and leave you feeling satisfied and nourished.

And to balance things out, I served this fish dish with a refreshing slaw salad loaded with crisp veggies and tangy dressing. A side of rice or quinoa will make it even more satiating and energy-dense.

This baked lemon sole recipe is healthy, gluten-free, low-carb, paleo and Whole30 friendly (use ghee instead of butter).

What Is Sole Fish?

Let me tell you about the marvelous fish known as the sole! These fish are typically flat and oval-shaped, with both eyes on one side of their head. They are usually brown or gray in color, with a smooth, slightly slimy skin.

They are found in oceans all around the world and highly sought after by chefs and foodies alike for its delicate and sweet taste, and tender texture.

There are many different types of sole out there, each with their own unique qualities. You’ve got your Dover sole, lemon sole, petrale sole, and more! These fish are like ninja warriors, sneaking around the ocean floor with their eyes all on one side of their head.

Sole is a popular ingredient in many different types of cuisine, including French, Italian, and Asian. You can grill it up, bake it, fry it, or poach it to perfection. And when it comes to seasoning, a little bit of butter, lemon, herbs, or white wine can really bring out the best in this tasty fish.

Cooking Lemon Sole

You can buy sole as fillets or a whole fish. I really like cooking the sole fish whole, either pan fried or baked, with some delicious sauce on the side. I am using lemon sole for this recipe.

I asked my fishmonger to make a deep slit in the middle of the sole so I could stuff it with some ginger and lime. I then used a small sharp knife to cut the flesh on each side of the slit away from the bone, so you have two little pockets. Make sure to ask you fishmonger to clean the scales, unless you know how to do it.

This recipe is for cooking one large whole lemon sole or 2 small ones or 2 fillets. This is enough for two servings when served with a side dish like salad or/and rice or some qunoa and vegetables.

The flesh of the fish is delicate and mild and goes well with some strong flavours like lemon and capers. For this recipe, I am using bold flavours of ginger, chilii and lime to compliment the delicate sole flesh.

You can use butter or ghee as the base for the sauce, which mellows out those strong ingredients and gives you that gorgeous, rich flavour.

What To Serve With Lemon Sole

This lemon sole recipe is inspired by Asian cuisine and uses ingredients like ginger and fish sauce, so it works well with side dishes like rice, noodles, stir-fried vegetables or fresh, herby salad.

It would also work well with cooked quinoa, cauliflower rice or sweet potatoes. I’ve included ingredients and instructions for an Asian-inspired slaw salad I served with this fish.

Looking for a simple and delicious lemon sole recipe? Look no further than this baked sole with ginger, chilli and lime-infused butter sauce. With just a few simple ingredients, you can transform this flaky white fish into a flavourful and satisfying meal that’s perfect for any occasion.

  • Preheat the oven to 200ºC / 400ºF.

  • Make a long slit in the middle of the fish and cut inside the flesh, peeling it away from the bone to create a little pocket on each side. See Cooking With Lemon Sole notes above.

  • Grate about half a teaspoon worthh of lemon zest, and cut 2-3 thin slices to insert inside the fish.

  • Sprinkle the sole with a little sea salt on each side. Stuff the ginger and lime slices inside the flesh pockets on one side of the fish and place it on an oven tray lined with lightly grease baking paper (you can use a little butter/ghee or olive oil).

  • Place fish in the oven and cook for 13-15 minutes, depending on the size of the fish. I think I did mine for 13 minutes at 200ºC

  • In the meantime, add butter to a medium frying pan and bring to medium-high heat. Add ginger and chilli and cook until golden brown and slightly crispy, a couple of minutes. Add lime zest, juice of half a lime, and fish sauce. Stir through and take off the heat.

  • Prepare the Asian slaw by combining all dressing ingredients together and tossing them through the salad.

  • Remove sole from the oven and pour over the butter sauce with ginger and chillies. Sprinkle with diced ghreen onions and a little extra sea salt. You can also drizzle more lime juice or serve a wedge of lime on the side. Serve with the Asian slaw or a side of favourite vegetables.

Sesame Ginger Shrimp Marinade Recipe https://recipeprofessional.com/sesame-ginger-shrimp-marinade-recipe/ https://recipeprofessional.com/sesame-ginger-shrimp-marinade-recipe/#respond Sat, 07 Feb 2026 03:04:11 +0000 https://recipeprofessional.com/sesame-ginger-shrimp-marinade-recipe/

This shrimp marinade recipe is perfect for grilling or roasting! Ginger, garlic, fish sauce, sesame oil, and honey combine for a delicious, sweet, sticky glaze.

Marinated Shrimp made with our Asian Shrimp Marinade

Chef Richard created this easy shrimp marinade recipe. We wanted something bright, zesty, and a bit spicy, and he delivered! It features some of my favorite ingredients: ginger, fresh lime, fish sauce, and toasty sesame oil.

We let the shrimp marinate for 30 to 60 minutes. No longer, or the acidity will start “cooking” them. This marinade is great for shrimp, chicken, tofu, or beef. It’s quick, easy, and always makes me happy. I love serving this marinated shrimp with coconut rice or cilantro lime rice.

Key Ingredients

  • Shrimp: For the best results, I prefer large or jumbo shrimp. They are less likely to overcook and dry out. Look for fresh shrimp that is firm and has a slightly sweet smell. If you have frozen shrimp, thaw and drain them before marinating.
  • Fresh Ginger and Garlic: The ginger adds warmth and a subtle spiciness, and the garlic complements all the other Asian-inspired flavors. Fresh is best for these.
  • Cilantro and Green Onion: These will give you a pop of color and freshness. I like using the white and lighter green parts of the green onion for the marinade and saving the darker green tops for slicing and scattering over the cooked shrimp when serving.
  • Soy Sauce or Tamari: Use what you prefer. If gluten-free is a concern, I recommend using gluten-free certified tamari.
  • Lime: This will brighten everything up and add acidity, making everything taste better. I usually buy an extra lime and use it for serving.
  • Honey: After cooking, the honey turns the marinade into a slightly sticky glaze. You can substitute maple syrup.
  • Fish Sauce: This magical ingredient adds a savory, umami flavor to the marinade. I recommend Red Boat Fish Sauce. If it’s unavailable, look for fish sauce in glass jars, which tend to be higher quality.
  • Sesame Oil: The toasted sesame oil will provide a nutty richness and a wonderful aroma.
  • Gochujang: This Korean fermented chili paste adds mild to moderate heat. You can adjust the amount to your liking or substitute it with Sriracha. I also use it to make our homemade hoisin sauce.
  • Dijon Mustard: This adds a subtle tang and makes the marinade more interesting. I love Dijon mustard for marinades and also use it when making this chicken marinade and honey mustard chicken.

Shrimp Marinade Ingredients -- Ginger, Lime, Garlic

How to Make the Best Shrimp Marinade

Tip 1: Perfect for weeknights. This marinade comes together in minutes. Combine all ingredients in a bowl or zip-top bag. Then, add shrimp and let it marinate for 30 minutes to an hour. This timeframe allows the shrimp to absorb the marinade flavors without becoming tough. This is especially important if the marinade has acidic ingredients, like the lime juice in this Asian marinade.

Marinating the shrimp longer than 60 minutes will begin to “cook” the shrimp which you don’t want in this recipe.

Marinating Shrimp

Tip 2: Cook with high heat. We love this marinade for grilled shrimp, which we cook on an outdoor grill or on the stove using a grill pan. You can also roast the marinated shrimp at high heat in the oven, which caramelizes the honey.

We love this Asian-inspired shrimp marinade recipe. Quickly marinate your shrimp, 30 to 60 minutes is perfect. Any longer, and the shrimp will begin to “cook” in the lime juice. This marinade is perfect for grilled shrimp, but you can roast them in the oven or cook them in a skillet. Below, we provide tips for all three cooking methods.

Serves 4

You Will Need

1 pound (450g) large or jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger, ½-inch piece

1 tablespoon minced garlic, 3 cloves

1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro

1 tablespoon finely chopped green onion

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 teaspoon Gochujang, see notes

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

Directions

  • Marinate Shrimp
  • 1Combine the shrimp marinade ingredients in a bowl or zip-top freezer bag. Let the shrimp marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

2If using skewers, soak wooden skewers in water while the shrimp marinate so they do not burn on the grill or in the oven.

  • Cook Shrimp
  • 1Grill (Recommended): Preheat your grill or a grill pan to medium-high heat. Thread shrimp onto skewers in opposing directions (heads touching, tails outward) for flat skewers. See our photos for reference. Push the skewer through the head and tail of each shrimp. They will look like an interlocking circle, keeping the shrimp skewers flat.

2Grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side until opaque and cooked through.

3Roast: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread shrimp in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 5 to 7 minutes or until opaque and cooked through.

4Skillet: Heat skillet over medium heat. Cook shrimp for 5 to 7 minutes until opaque and cooked. Watch for the honey burning in the pan (keep the heat between medium and medium-high).

Adam and Joanne’s Tips

  • Frozen Shrimp: Thaw and drain frozen shrimp before marinating.
  • Gochujang: A Korean chili paste, we find Mother-in-law’s Gochujang in stores around us. It can also be found sold in Asian or Korean markets. While it does not taste the same, Sriracha is a good substitute in this marinade recipe. Or leave it out.
  • Best Cooking Method: This marinade works exceptionally well on an outdoor grill or in a grill pan. Roasting in the oven is our second-best method.
  • Gluten-free: Use GF Tamari and ensure all other ingredients (specifically the fish sauce and gochujang) are marked gluten-free.
