Honey Walnut Shrimp Recipe

Let’s talk shrimp. Do you love it or hate it? My husband LOVES shrimp! He asks me to make it all the time. I wasn’t the biggest fan of it before, but I am a firm believer in giving things a second try. I’m so happy I did because shrimp is so delicious and versatile! Since honey walnut shrimp is such a popular dish, I decided to try recreating it at home with fresh, simple ingredients. No need to make a trip to Panda Express this time!

This is a great recipe to start with if you aren’t a huge shrimp fan. (It will make you a believer!) First of all, the walnuts get a crunchy candied outside. Then, you pan fry the shrimp until the outside gets nice and crispy. But this honey glaze you guys… it is out of this world! It’s sweet, savory, creamy, and coats each piece of crispy shrimp perfectly. With honey walnut shrimp this good, you won’t be able to load enough onto your plate.

Ingredients for Honey Walnut Shrimp

The sauce is a combination of honey, mayonnaise, and sweetened condensed milk. Yes, you heard that right. Sweetened condensed milk! Just a little of this added to the sauce brings all of the flavors together and adds such a delicious and sweet glaze to the shrimp. And the candied walnuts throughout, so amazing!

  • Water: Adjusts the consistency of the honey glaze.
  • Sugar: Sweetens everything, making the walnuts sugary and giving a sweet taste to the shrimp.
  • Walnuts: Makes the dish crunchy and nutty when coated with sugar, which pairs nicely with the shrimp and sauce.
  • Vegetable Oil: Used to fry the shrimp, making them crispy and golden on the outside while keeping them soft inside.
  • Egg: Helps the cornstarch stick to the shrimp.
  • Cornstarch: The main coating for the honey walnut shrimp.
  • Shrimp: I used large deveined shrimp, but you can use any size you want. You may just need to adjust the cooking times a bit.
  • Mayonnaise: So the sauce is creamy and rich. Regular mayo and Japanese mayo (also known as kewpie mayo) both work!
  • Honey: Adds sweetness to the sauce, making it tasty and blending well with the walnuts.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: The secret ingredient! This adds a wonderful creaminess to the sauce.
  • Sliced Green Onions: Adds a little fresh onion taste and makes the dish look nice.

Let’s Get Cooking!

Honey walnut shrimp is the perfect 30-minute meal to impress your family with. Make a batch of my General Tso’s Chicken and Beef Chow Mein for the full takeout experience!

  1. Candy Walnuts: In a small saucepan stir together the water and sugar. Then bring to a boil and add the walnuts. Boil for about 2 minutes then drain and place on a cookie sheet to dry.
  2. Fry Shrimp: Heat the oil in a heavy deep skillet over medium high heat. In a small bowl whisk the egg. Then add the cornstarch to another small bowl. Dip the shrimp into the egg and then the cornstarch. Fry the shrimp for about 5 minutes or until they turn pink and the outside is golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel.
  3. Sauce Mixture: In a medium bowl whisk together mayonnaise, honey, and sweetened condensed milk. Add the fried shrimp and toss to coat. Sprinkle with candied walnuts and green onions. Serve honey walnut shrimp fresh with fried rice or any of your other favorite Chinese takeout recipes!

Cooking Tips

You are seriously going to love every single bite. Better-than-takeout recipes are the best! I promise that you are going to love this honey walnut shrimp just as much as my family does. Here are a few ways to make sure your dish turns out perfectly:

  • Candy the Walnuts First: Candy the walnuts early on, allowing them to dry properly on a cookie sheet. This ensures they’re crispy and sweet for the final dish.
  • Prep the Shrimp Well: Make sure to peel and devein the shrimp properly before coating with egg and cornstarch. This helps achieve crispy and evenly-coated shrimp.
  • Knowing When the Shrimp are Done: Fry the shrimp until they turn pink and have a golden brown exterior. Be careful not to overcook, as this can result in tough shrimp.
  • Fry Shrimp in Small Batches: To make sure each piece of shrimp gets cooked through properly, work in small batches and don’t overcrowd your skillet.
  • Drain Excess Oil: After frying, place the shrimp on a paper towel to drain any excess oil. No one likes soggy shrimp!
  • Create the Creamy Honey Sauce: Whisk the mayonnaise, honey, and sweetened condensed milk thoroughly to create a smooth sauce that coats the shrimp evenly.
  • Toss Shrimp Gently: When combining the shrimp with the sauce, toss them gently to ensure each shrimp is coated evenly without breaking that crispy outer texture.

Storing Leftover Honey Walnut Shrimp

If you have leftovers of this wonderful shrimp, here’s how to keep it fresh so you can enjoy it later.

  • In the Refrigerator: Transfer shrimp to an airtight container and store for 2-3 days.
  • Reheating: To make sure your shrimp stays crispy on the outside, I recommend reheating it in the oven. Add your honey walnut shrimp to a baking sheet and cook for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Homemade Big Mac Burger Recipe

Sure, you could just go to McDonald’s, but who wants a burger chock full of fillers that looks nothing like its picture? With this Big Mac burger recipe, you get everything you love about a Big Mac (like the special sauce!) but it’s much better quality. It’s comfort food at its finest and will have you satisfied down to the last bite.

Because, let’s be honest, is there anything better than sinking your teeth into a juicy all-beef patty topped with melty cheese, lettuce, onions, and Big Mac sauce? And let’s not forget that Big Macs have an extra bun in the middle, so the bread to burger ratio is just perfect! My mouth is watering just writing this. Trust me, you’re going to want to add these copycat Big Macs to the dinner lineup this week.

Burger and Sauce Ingredients

Mix all these flavors and textures up, and you’ve got yourself a homemade Big Mac – a tasty tower of yum that’s got a little bit of everything in each bite. Exact measurements are in the recipe card below.

  • Ground Beef: The juicy patty that’s the heart of the Big Mac burger. It’s seasoned and cooked just right for that delicious, meaty taste.
  • Salt and Pepper: Think of these as the flavor boosters. They make the beef taste even better!
  • Sesame Seed Buns: You’ll need 2 bottoms and 1 top per burger.
  • American Cheese: For some cheesy, melty goodness! You can also swap this out for cheddar, pepper jack, colby jack, you name it!
  • Diced White Onion: These are the crispy, kind of spicy bits that add a kick and a satisfying crunch.
  • Shredded Iceberg Lettuce: It’s crisp, it’s light, and it’s there to balance out the richness of the meat and cheese.
  • Dill Pickle Slices: Sour and tangy, these cut through the richness, making sure each bite isn’t too heavy.

Big Mac Sauce:

  • Mayonnaise: The rich and creamy base of the Big Mac sauce.
  • Sweet Pickle Relish: Relish adds a sweet and tangy flavor to the sauce that’s so delicious.
  • White Vinegar: For a little bit of tang.
  • Garlic Powder: Makes the sauce nice and savory.
  • Onion Powder: Another flavor booster!
  • Paprika: Paprika adds a bit of smokiness and gives the Big Mac sauce a bit of kick.
  • Turmeric: For a subtle earthy flavor that pairs well with the other ingredients.

Copycat Big Mac Burger and Sauce Recipe

Delicious, gourmet burgers ready in less than 30 minutes! Big Mac burgers are the perfect hearty meal and something that the whole family will enjoy.

Big Mac Sauce

  1. Whisk Ingredients Together: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, pickle relish, vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and turmeric. Chill in the refrigerator for several hours before serving. This will help the flavors meld together.

For the Burgers

  • Shape: Divide the ground beef evenly into 3-ounce portions and form into balls. Then cover and place in the refrigerator while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  • Heat Skillet: Heat your griddle or cast iron skillet to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Add to Pan: Place two balls of beef on the hot griddle or skillet. You can cook all of the hamburgers at the same time if your griddle will fit them all. Just work quickly because the meat cooks fast.
  • Flatten: Press the ball of meat down with a large flat metal spatula. Get the patty as flat and thin as you can. You’ll be doubling up the patties, so don’t be nervous about a thin patty. It helps to cover the meat with a piece of parchment paper so it doesn’t stick to the spatula.
  • Cook: Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, then assemble.

To Assemble

  • Layer: Add the following ingredients, working from the bottom up: bottom bun, big mac sauce, onion, lettuce, beef patty, cheese, pickles, bottom bun, big mac sauce, onion, lettuce, beef patty, pickles, top bun.
4-photo collage of a burger being assembled.

Tips and Variations

The best part of making homemade Big Mac burgers is getting creative and tailoring them to your liking. Enjoy experimenting with different ingredients and flavors!

  • Quality Beef: Use good quality ground beef for the patty. Lean meat with a bit of fat (80/20 ratio) works well for a juicy and flavorful burger.
  • Press Down Those Patties: While cooking, gently press down on the patties with a spatula to create a crispy exterior.
  • Toasting Buns: Toast the sesame seed buns slightly to enhance their texture and prevent sogginess.
  • Spicy Twist: Add a slice of pepper jack cheese and a drizzle of hot sauce or hot honey for a spicy kick.
  • Different Sauces: Play around with other sauces – chipotle mayo, garlic aioli, or BBQ sauce for a personalized touch.
  • Big Mac Sliders: Make smaller versions using slider buns for a fun party appetizer.

Spreading Big Mac sauce onto a bun.

Storing Leftovers

So, here’s the deal with a homemade Big Mac – it’s best when it’s freshly made. Since it contains ingredients like lettuce, pickles, and Big Mac sauce, it won’t hold up well over an extended period. The lettuce will wilt, the bun will become soggy, and the overall quality just won’t be as good. So enjoy it while it’s hot and fresh!

A great salmon marinade makes your fish flavorful, tender, and juicy! This recipe gives each filet the perfect balance of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors.

Most of my favorite meat recipes start with a good marinade. And I love experimenting with different ingredients to create new flavors, especially during grilling season! Here are some of our go-to marinades that you’ll definitely want to try: pork chop marinade, shrimp marinade, and chicken marinade!

Reasons You’ll Love This Marinade Recipe

  • Easy to Prepare: Requires just a few simple ingredients.
  • Delicious: Delivers big flavor with minimal effort. Enjoy tender, juicy salmon that’s perfect every time.
  • Versatile: Ideal for salmon, chicken, or steak. While store-bought marinades are convenient, homemade always tastes better!

What Ingredients are in Salmon Marinade?

You’re going to love how easy this salmon marinade recipe is! It’s made with simple ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. Just check the recipe card below for all the exact measurements.

  • Soy Sauce: Adds a savory and umami flavor to the marinade that enhances the taste of the salmon.
  • Lemon Juice: A little acidity is a must in marinades. It provides fresh flavor and also helps to tenderize the salmon.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Ensures the marinade coats the salmon completely while adding plenty of moisture.
  • Honey: The sweetness from the honey balances the savory flavor from the soy sauce.
  • Garlic: Fresh garlic infuses the salmon with an incredible savory taste!
  • Fresh Parsley: Love adding fresh herbs for depth of flavor.
  • Salmon: This marinade makes enough to fully coat 2-3 pounds of fresh salmon.

How to Make Salmon Marinade and Cook Salmon

Homemade marinade is super simple to make! All you have to do is mix all of the ingredients, and then add everything to a large ziplock bag! Below, you’ll find instructions for making the marinade and also 4 different ways to cook your salmon:

  1. Make the Marinade: Combine all the ingredients in a large ziplock bag or a large bowl.
  2. Marinate the Fish: Add the salmon, ensuring the fish is completely covered with the marinade. Let it marinate for 30-60 minutes. Avoid letting it marinate for longer than an hour, as fish can start to break down and become mushy after too long.

Choose Your Cooking Method

  1. Air Fryer: Spray the basket of the air fryer with pan spray and place the salmon skin side down. Cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes, or until the fish reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Oven: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or non-stick foil. Place the salmon skin side down on the baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the fish reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Skillet: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat before adding the salmon skin-side up. Let the salmon sear for 4-5 minutes before flipping it skin side down. Cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  4. Grill: Preheat the grill to 500 degrees Fahrenheit and either brush or spray with oil. Place the salmon skin side down for 6-8 minutes. When it is ready to flip, it should easily release with a fish spatula. Flip the fish and cook over indirect heat for 2-4 minutes, until the fish reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Variations and Substitutions

This sweet and savory salmon marinade is a game-changer, making your fish tender and juicy with incredible flavor. Here are some easy tweaks to tailor it to your taste:

  • Switch up the Citrus: For a fun twist, try swapping the lemon juice with lime or orange juice. Each one adds its own unique zing!
  • Change the Herbs: Feel free to mix in different herbs like rosemary, thyme, cilantro, or dill. Fresh herbs are great, but if you’re using dried, go with 1 teaspoon for every tablespoon of fresh.
  • Alternative for Soy Sauce: If you need to switch out the soy sauce, go for gluten-free or low-sodium soy sauce, or try liquid aminos for a similar taste.
  • Make it Spicy: Craving some heat? Add a pinch or two (or more, if you like it hot) of crushed red pepper to spice things up.
  • Sweetener: Honey does a great job balancing the saltiness of the soy sauce, but you can swap it with brown sugar or agave. If you need to skip the sweetener, that’s okay too—just know it adds a nice touch!

The top view of salmon filets in marinade in a ziplock bag. The top view of salmon filets in marinade in a ziplock bag.

How to Store Salmon Marinade

You can get a head start by whipping up your marinade a day in advance. Just remember, don’t add the fish to it until about an hour before you plan to cook. If you let the fish soak for more than 60 minutes, the marinade will start to break down the fillet’s structure, leaving you with mushy fish.

  • In the Refrigerator: Your homemade marinade will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks if you keep it in an airtight container in the fridge. But be careful! Once the marinade has been in contact with raw meat or fish, you’ll need to toss it out to avoid any food safety issues.
  • In the Freezer: For longer storage, you can freeze your marinade. Just pour it into a freezer-safe ziplock bag, and it will keep for 3-6 months. When you’re ready to use it, let it thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

  • Chicken: Boneless skinless chicken thighs will have a richer, more intense flavor than chicken breast, but either can be used.
  • Bourbon Whiskey: Any brand of bourbon works and will add wonderful flavor. It will also break down the enzymes in the meat, yielding tender, juicy chicken.
  • Brown Sugar: For a bit of sweetness and caramelization when grilled.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: It’s important to include some acid in your marinade to tenderize the meat. Plus, apple cider vinegar has a bright flavor that mellows any harshness from the bourbon.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Has a mix of vinegar, garlic, chiles, molasses and more to give the chicken an incredible umami taste.
  • Garlic: Freshly minced garlic for infusing the meat with wonderful savory flavor!

How to Perfectly Grill Bourbon Chicken

Bourbon chicken is easy to make and packs a big punch of flavor! Plan ahead for the marinating time, and you will be eating a delicious meal in no time! Don’t have a grill? Make my bourbon chicken or shrimp in a skillet in no time!

  1. Make the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the whiskey, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  2. Marinate: Pour the marinade into a sealable bag, add the chicken thighs to the bag, and seal it shut. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least an hour.
  3. Prep: While the chicken is marinating, heat a grill up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. When the chicken is ready, remove it from the marinade and discard the marinade.
  4. Grill: Brush the grill with oil and grill the chicken breasts for about 3-4 minutes per side. The internal temperature of the breasts should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit, but don’t overcook the chicken.
  5. Rest: Remove the grilled chicken from the grill and place on a clean plate to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Tips and Variations

Here are some of our top tips for grilling bourbon chicken thighs, so that they’re juicy and cooked to perfection!

  • Use Chicken Breast: You can use boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe, or even chicken wings just be sure to adjust the grill time and make sure the chicken is cooked all the way through before enjoying!
  • Clean the Grill: We recommend cleaning your grill before starting. Heat it up, and then clean it off using a brush or a grill cleaning spray.
  • Be Patient: It’s best to leave the meat cooking in one place and then flip it over to finish cooking it through. If the meat is sticking to the grill, then leave it and it will unstick after it is finished cooking.
  • Don’t Press the Meat: When grilling it is tempting to lay the spatula on top of the meat and press it down. Avoid doing this because all the fat and juiciness that adds flavor will seep out.
  • Let it Rest: Once grilled, let the chicken rest for at least 5 minutes before cutting into it. This will allow all of the juices to distribute throughout the meat.
  • Check the Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the chicken before you eat it. You can safely remove it from the grill once the internal temperature reaches anywhere from 155-157 degrees Fahrenheit. As it rests it will continue to cook and reach 160 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Serving: This grilled chicken is perfect for dicing and adding to a salad like this Teriyaki Spinach Pasta Salad or serve it with your favorite sides like parmesan garlic grilled broccoli or our easy crockpot mashed potatoes and don’t forget the dinner rolls!

Storing Leftovers

The flavors and textures in this bowl are some of my favorites! If you love them too, try our California rolls, and this sushi bake next!

Reasons to Love This Sushi Bowl

  • Quick & Easy: This sushi bowl recipe requires less hassle and effort than rolling sushi rolls, but it still delivers amazing flavor!
  • Versatile: The beauty of this dish is that it’s totally customizable. Want to use something other than crab? Try salmon. Not a fan of roasted seaweed? Leave it out.
  • Fresh flavor: This is the easiest and tastiest way to satisfy a sushi craving at home! You will love the combination of fresh ingredients paired perfectly with an incredible sauce.

What’s in a Sushi Bowl?

Here’s a list of everything you’ll need for this sushi bowl recipe! First, you can easily mix and match filling ingredients and use your favorite sauce. Moreover, being able to customize it is one of the best things about making it at home. For exact measurements, be sure to scroll to the recipe card below.

Bowl

  • Sushi Rice: My recipe for sushi rice is perfectly sticky and delicious!
  • Avocado: Adds a creamy richness to the bowl.
  • Imitation Crab Meat: Brings a meaty taste and texture to the bowl. You can also use fresh crab if you’d prefer! Or for a shrimp variation, make my Tempura Shrimp!
  • Cucumber: Adds a refreshing crunch. You can use English cucumber or whatever variety you like. To change things up, you can swap it with (or add in) carrot sticks, sliced radish, or bell pepper.
  • Roasted Seaweed: Nori sheets or roasted seaweed make this taste just like real sushi.

Toppings

  • Green Onions: To garnish and add mild onion flavor, plus extra color and texture.
  • Spicy Mayo: Try my homemade spicy mayonnaise to add creaminess and a kick of heat. Or simply squeeze on some sriracha
  • Sesame Seeds: Sprinkle some over the top of your finished bowl for texture and presentation.
Overhead shot of labeled ingredients. Overhead shot of labeled ingredients.

Sauce

  • Soy Sauce: Loaded with umami flavor, this will add depth and richness to the sushi bowl sauce.
  • Oyster Sauce: This adds some brininess with a hint of sweetness but doesn’t taste fishy.
  • Sesame Oil: For nutty, earthy flavor.
  • Rice Vinegar: Brightens the flavor with a slight sweetness.
  • Fresh Ginger: Grated ginger adds a bit of a kick that balances out the other ingredients nicely.
  • Salt and Pepper: To taste and enhance all of the flavors.

How to Make This Recipe

You’ll love how quickly you can whip up this delicious sushi bowl! In fact, there’s no need to turn on the oven. It’s so refreshing and easy, and the result is irresistible!

  1. Prep and Make the Sauce: Prepare all the ingredients for the bowls and set them aside. Then, in a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, ginger, salt, and pepper.
  2. Assemble Bowls: Get two bowls and fill them with ½ cup rice each. Then, add half of the avocado you prepared to each bowl. Then, add ½ cup imitation crab and ¼ cup cucumber to each bowl. Finally, top each bowl with half of the seaweed.
  3. Add Garnish and Mayo: Drizzle half of the sauce over each bowl, then top them with green onions, spicy mayo, and sesame seeds.
  4. Serve: Enjoy fresh!

Sushi Bowl Suggestions

You can easily customize these California roll bowls based on the ingredients that you like best! Here are some suggestions:

  • Choose Your Toppings: You can leave off any of the toppings or add more to your liking! I like edamame, fresh lime, pickled carrots, and pickled ginger.
  • Change the Protein: Other great proteins for a sushi bowl include salmon, tuna, shrimp, and steak. However, if you plan to eat the fish raw, make sure you get sashimi-grade quality.
  • If you’re a fan of tuna, try this poke bowl next!
  • Swap the Rice: You can use short grain, calrose rice, or brown rice instead of white sushi rice.
  • Serving Size: This recipe makes 2 bowls. Feel free to double the recipe if you’re serving a family or more than 2 people.

Storing Leftover Sushi Bowls

I’m not sure if you will have any leftovers to store, but if you do, follow the instructions below.

  • Refrigerate: I recommend enjoying your sushi bowl fresh, but leftovers can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Separate: I like to store the individual ingredients separately to keep things from becoming soggy. This way, each component stays fresh and maintains its texture.
  • Assembly after storing: Additionally, separating the ingredients makes it easier to assemble the sushi bowl when you’re ready to eat, ensuring that every bite is as delicious as the first. Furthermore, this method allows you to customize each serving to your preference, adding or omitting ingredients as desired.

Fresh and delicious Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad is a crowd-pleasing hearty salad with tender grilled chicken, crisp romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, shredded parmesan cheese, and crunchy croutons!

Satisfying and flavorful salads like this one never go out of style. They make the perfect lunch or light dinner! Try out this greek broccoli pasta salad, this delicious honey mustard chicken salad, and this amazing Portillo’s chopped salad.

Top view of a chicken caesar salad in a wooden bowl with a wooden spoon in it.

Reasons to Make This Salad

  • It’s so filling: This chicken Caesar salad includes vegetables, lean protein, and many essential vitamins and minerals. It’s one of those salads that will fuel you for hours.
  • So delicious: The combination of crisp romaine, juicy tomatoes, flavorful chicken, delicious parmesan cheese, and crunchy croutons creates a mouthwatering flavor profile that’s a hit with almost everyone.

Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

This grilled chicken Caesar salad is my favorite refreshing meal when the weather starts to warm up! I’ve always been a huge fan of a good classic Caesar salad, but this one with juicy, flavor-packed grilled chicken and juicy tomatoes is on a whole new level.

It’s actually pretty easy to make, too! Let the chicken marinate in Caesar dressing to add plenty of that delicious Caesar flavor. Then, once the chicken is grilled, everything comes together in minutes. Serve it alone or with some crusty buttered sourdough bread on the side.

Ingredients in Chicken Caesar Salad

This grilled chicken salad recipe is the absolute best! The ingredients are simple and come together with very little effort. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

Chicken

  • Caesar Dressing: You can use store-bought dressing, but we highly recommend this homemade Caesar Dressing. It’s perfectly creamy with incredible flavor!
  • Olive Oil: Smooths out the marinade and adds some necessary fat for juicy grilled chicken.
  • Lemon Juice: All good marinades have just enough acidity to tenderize the meat.
  • Salt & Pepper: Brings out all of the delicious flavor.
  • Chicken Breasts: These will marinate in the dressing for at least 1 hour making them tender, juicy and full of flavor.
Top view of ingredients for chicken marinade.

Salad

  • Romaine: Chopped romaine adds bright green color and makes the salad fresh and crisp.
  • Cherry Tomatoes: For juicy bursts of sweetness.
  • Croutons: I love using my homemade croutons to add plenty of crunchy texture.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Add shredded or shaved parmesan cheese for a bit of nutty sharpness that enhances the flavor of the dressing.
  • Caesar Dressing: You can’t have a Caesar salad without Caesar Dressing! It adds the most wonderful briny, tangy and rich taste.
  • Black Pepper: Freshly cracked black pepper is the perfect finishing touch!
Top view of labeled ingredients for the salad.

How to Make a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

Just five simple steps and you’re well on your way to the best salad of your life! This is one of those salads that even the kids will love. It’s that good! Here’s the easy process of how everything comes together:

For the chicken

  1. Make the Marinade: In a large sealable bag or container, mix together the Caesar dressing, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt and pepper.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Add the chicken breasts to the bag or container and coat each breast evenly. Place the chicken in the fridge to marinate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Grill: Heat a grill up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the chicken is ready, remove it from the marinade and grill for about 6-8 minutes on each side. Discard the marinade.

For the salad.

  1. Slice Chicken: Once the chicken is grilled, let it rest at least 5 minutes before slicing into ½ inch strips.
  2. Assemble and Toss Salad: To a large bowl add the chopped romaine, cherry tomatoes, croutons, parmesan cheese, sliced chicken and caesar dressing, top with freshly cracked black pepper and toss.

Tips and Variations

With a joining of fresh ingredients and a flavorful, creamy salad dressing, this is definitely my new favorite salad recipe! Here are some helpful tips and ways to make it your own!

  • Using Homemade Dressing: I like to use my homemade dressing, but a store-bought dressing works just as well! The same goes for the croutons.
  • Marinating the Chicken: Your chicken can marinate for up to 4 hours, but 1 hour is sufficient. If you’re in a hurry, even 30 minutes will be okay, but not quite as good.
  • Salad Greens: Romaine is classic in Caesar salads; however, any favorite greens will work. You can even use a combination of several varieties.
  • Precooked Chicken: You can totally use pre-cooked chicken or rotisserie chicken for this recipe, but what makes it special is the marinated grilled chicken.

A close up of grilled chicken caesar salad in a bowl being scooped with a wooden spoon.

Make Ahead & Storing Leftovers

  • Make Ahead: Get a head start by making the dressing and grilling the chicken a day or two ahead, and store each separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. You can also chop the lettuce and tomatoes beforehand. Then, when it comes time to serve, pull everything out of the fridge, assemble, and enjoy!
  • Leftovers: Once the salad is tossed, it’s best enjoyed the day it’s made, but you can keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. It’s best to store the dressing separately from the salad.

Marry Me Shrimp Pasta Recipe

This Marry Me Shrimp with pasta recipe comes together quickly. First, cook the pasta, then simmer the ingredients in a pan, and before you know it, dinner is ready! Just remember not to overcook your shrimp. Follow the steps below to create this amazing dish.

  1. Pasta: Cook the linguine according to the package directions, then drain, and set aside.
  2. Coat shrimp: Toss the shrimp in the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Then, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook shrimp: Add the shrimp to the pan and cook until it turns pink, about 6-8 minutes. Don’t overcook the shrimp, or it will be chewy. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside.

Sauce

  1. Saute: Melt the butter in the same pan. Saute the garlic for 30 seconds, then whisk in the flour to make a paste.
  2. Whisk: Slowly whisk in the chicken broth and heavy cream. Whisk together and heat until the sauce starts to thicken.
  3. Seasonings: Add the parmesan cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, paprika, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Whisk and heat through until you have a smooth, creamy sauce.
  4. Heat everything: Add the shrimp and pasta to the sauce and toss to coat. Saute everything together for another 3-4 minutes.
  5. Garnish: Top Marry Me shrimp pasta with additional basil, and enjoy fresh!

Tips to Make Your Marry Me Shrimp Pasta Perfectly

This Marry Me shrimp with pasta dish is hard to get wrong, but here are some tips and ideas to make it the best it can be!

  • DON’T overcook shrimp: Cook the shrimp until the shrimp just turns pink, not much longer than that; it will finish cooking later in the sauce
  • Pasta trick: I like to toss my cooked pasta in a little olive oil to keep it from sticking together while it waits for the rest of the recipe to come together.
  • Fresh shrimp is superior: I like to use fresh shrimp from the deli if it’s available, but frozen shrimp works just as well. Make sure to thaw it completely before using it.

Storing Leftover Marry Me Shrimp Pasta

Luckily you can store any leftovers. Follow the instructions below to store and reheat pasta below.

  • Cool: Make sure the dish has cooled completely before putting it in an airtight container.
  • Refrigerate: Put the container in the fridge; it will last up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: To reheat Marry Me Shrimp Pasta, transfer it to a microwave-safe dish or saucepan. Add a splash of water, broth, or cream to maintain its creamy texture. Microwave covered for 30-second increments, stirring in between, or reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • DO NOT freeze: We do not recommend freezing this dish. It will affect the texture of the shrimp and the creaminess of the sauce.

How to Make Shrimp Egg Rolls

Don’t be intimidated to roll the egg rolls, check out the visual guide below for step-by-step instructions. It’s actually super easy! Here’s how everything comes together:

  1. Cook: Cook the vermicelli according to the package directions, rinse under cold water, then lightly toss in a little sesame oil to keep them from sticking together. Set aside.
  2. Sauté: In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium-high heat, then add the cabbage, carrots, and green onions to the skillet. Saute the vegetables until they become tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add: Add garlic, ginger, oyster sauce, soy sauce, shrimp, salt, and pepper. Saute everything together until the shrimp has turned pink and cooked through. Remove the shrimp and vegetable filling from the heat and set aside.
  4. Prep Work Station: Meanwhile, prepare a clean work surface with egg roll wrappers, a small bowl of water, the filling, and the vermicelli noodles.
  5. Fill the Paper Wrappers: Working one at a time, place a wrapper with a corner facing you, then add some of the shrimp and vegetable filling along with some vermicelli noodles into the lower ⅓ of the wrapper.
  6. Roll: Roll the corner up over the filling, fold the sides in, and continue rolling using a little water on the edge of the wrapper to seal it closed. While the egg rolls are being filled, heat 2 inches of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  7. Fry: Once all the egg rolls are filled, start frying them in batches. There should be space between all the egg rolls while they fry. Fry the egg rolls for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool: Remove the fried shrimp egg rolls from the pan and set them aside on a paper towel-lined plate to cool while you fry the rest of the rolls.

Tips for Making Shrimp Egg Rolls

Here are my top tips for making shrimp egg rolls. They will turn out absolutely perfect every time you make them!

  • To Air Fry the Egg Rolls: Once all the egg rolls are filled, lightly spray or brush them with oil and place them in an even layer in the air fryer with space between. Set the air fryer to 375 degrees and fry them for 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown.
  • Shrimp Size: I like to use shrimp that isn’t too big so I can get at least three pieces in each roll, using jumbo shrimp works if that is your preference, but you might only get 1 or 2 shrimps in each roll.
  • Use Cooked Shrimp: You can use cooked shrimp in this recipe, just toss it in with the veggies and sauce at the end of cooking to coat it in flavor, don’t overcook the shrimp.

Fried Calamari | The Recipe Critic https://recipeprofessional.com/fried-calamari-the-recipe-critic/ https://recipeprofessional.com/fried-calamari-the-recipe-critic/#respond Sun, 08 Feb 2026 18:34:56 +0000 https://recipeprofessional.com/fried-calamari-the-recipe-critic/

Crispy, flavorful Fried Calamari is a delicious appetizer that tastes like something you would order in a fancy restaurant. The calamari is tenderized, breaded, and then fried to golden brown, crunchy perfection. Take it to the next level with marinara sauce for dipping!

Overhead shot of fried calamari on a plate.

Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Delicious Texture and Flavor: This fried calamari recipe uses simple seasonings to get the flavor just right. Plus, the ratio of ingredients for the breading results in the perfect crispy texture.
  • Two Methods for Cooking: I’m giving you instructions for deep frying and for the air fryer. Both methods will produce a crispy, crunchy appetizer that everyone will love.
  • Easy to Make at Home: Calamari is inexpensive and readily available at most grocery stores. I’ll walk you through the simple method, and you’ll be chowing down on this deliciousness in no time.

What is Fried Calamari?

You’ll find fresh calamari in the seafood department at most grocery stores. We love it so much that we always have to order it if we see it on the menu! It’s also easy to make at home.

You can find fresh calamari at most grocery stores in the seafood department. You can also find frozen squid in the freezer aisle. The key to making sure your calamari is tender is to first soak it in a milk and lemon juice mixture. Then, you’ll bread it with a simple mix of flour, cornstarch, and seasonings. Fry it up in just minutes to a perfect golden brown. Its crispy goodness will have you coming back for seconds and thirds!

Ingredients You’ll Need For Crispy Fried Calamari

The ingredients for this calamari recipe are simple. Other than the calamari, you probably already have what you need! It’s all about the ratio of flour to cornstarch to get that delicious crispiness. Exact measurements can all be found below in the recipe card.

  • Calamari Rings: You can use either calamari rings that are sold already cleaned (seen below) or whole squid, which you cut into tubes before use.
  • Milk and Lemon Juice: Soaking the calamari in a mix of whole milk and lemon juice will make it tender and also help the breading adhere to it.
  • Flour/Cornstarch: For the breading, you’ll need a mix of all-purpose flour and cornstarch for golden brown crispiness. The flour is what will fry up golden brown and the cornstarch will give the exterior that crispy crunch.
  •  Dried Dill: Gives the perfect complimentary flavor to the squid.
  • Paprika: Adds a nice peppery flavor that gives a bit of heat.
  • Salt & Pepper: To taste!
  • Oil: Vegetable oil for frying.
  • Lemon Wedges: Serve with lemon wedges to squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice over the top for brightness in every bite.
Overhead shot of labeled ingredients.Overhead shot of labeled ingredients.

How to Make Fried Calamari

Frying crispy calamari is much easier to make at home than you might think! The steps are simple, and the calamari only takes about 3 minutes to fry!

  1. Prep: Prepare the calamari rings by thawing them if they are frozen. Pat the rings dry and place them into a bowl.
  2. Coat with Milk and Lemon Juice: Pour the milk and lemon juice over the rings and stir to combine and coat the rings evenly in the milk mixture.
  3. Mix: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, salt, dill, paprika, and pepper.
  4. Dredge in Flour Mixture: Remove the rings from the milk mixture, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Then, toss them in the flour mixture. Next, place the breaded calamari rings onto a plate or sheet pan. Meanwhile, prepare a second plate or sheet pan by lining it with paper towels.
  5. Fry: Heat about an inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot carefully place the battered calamari into the hot oil and fry them for about 3 minutes until they are golden brown.
  6. Finish Frying and Serve: Once you finish frying the calamari, place them onto a paper towel-lined plate or sheet pan. Work in batches until you’ve cooked all the calamari, then serve it fresh with lemon wedges.

Tips for Making Fried Calamari

Don’t be intimidated to fry your own calamari at home! This tasty appetizer is something that you can easily make in your own kitchen, and it will be even better than any you get in a restaurant! Here are a few tips and ideas to help you along the way:

  • Calamari to Use: You can use calamari tubes and cut them into rings for the calamari rings. You can also use mixes with tentacles for this recipe. Thaw the squid all the way before you start breading and frying for the best results.
  • Use the Air Fryer: To air fry, follow the steps up until you fry them. Instead, spray the breaded calamari with oil and place them into your air fryer basket. Air fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 4-5 minutes.
  • Serving Sauces: Calamari goes great with Marinara Sauce, Tartar Sauce, or Tzatziki Sauce.
  • Thaw First: If you are using frozen calamari rings, thaw them completely before using them.

How to Store Leftover Fried Calamari

If you’re lucky enough to have any leftover calamari, here are my best tips for how to store them and reheat them to make sure they are crispy when you reheat them.

  • Refrigerate: Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: I recommend baking or air frying the leftovers to get them crispy. To air fry, cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 3-5 minutes. If using the oven, heat in the oven at 400 for 3-5 minutes.
