I made this Grilled Lamb Chops Recipe with a package of lamb chops from Costco, and everyone loved this for a special dinner. I used a tasty lamb marinade with lots of garlic and herbs, and marinated the lamb chops for a few hours. Then we quickly grilled them for a truly memorable meal!

Lamb chops are something I would order as a splurge when I’m eating in a nice restaurant. And I love cooking lamb at home once in a while, although I realize they’re a budget splurge for most people. But the Grilled Lamb Chops are extra low in carbs, and lamb is just so delicious!

I hope you try this easy recipe for grilling lamb chops if you don’t mind splurging a bit. Or see the links below for other ideas for cooking grilled lamb that are a bit less expensive.

What ingredients do you need?

(This is only a list of ingredients; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe with ingredient amounts.)

  • lamb loin chops
  • sea salt to taste
  • Red Wine Vinegar (affiliate link)
  • chopped fresh rosemary
  • chopped fresh thyme
  • Minced Garlic (affiliate link)
  • Olive Oil (affiliate link)
  • fresh ground black pepper to taste

Is fresh rosemary and thyme a must for the grilled lamb chops marinade?

This recipe is amazing with chopped fresh herbs in the lamb marinade, but if that’s not an option just use a slightly smaller amount of ground rosemary (affiliate link) and ground thyme (affiliate link).

Can you make grilled lamb chops without an outdoor grill?

If you don’t have an outdoor grill, these marinated lamb chops can be cooked on a Stovetop Grill Pan (affiliate link) or a George Foreman Grill (affiliate link) with good results. Remember that the George Foreman grill cooks both sides at once so the grilling time will be shorter.

Want less expensive ideas for Grilled Lamb?

Here are some options if you like the sound of marinated lamb cooked on the grill but lamb chops aren’t in the budget. Use a cheaper cut of lamb for Kabobs or Souvlaki. And both those recipes for lamb cooked on skewers are amazing served with Tzatziki Sauce.

How low in carbs are the Grilled Lamb Chops?

These amazing lamb chops cooked on the grill have only 1 net carb per serving with 36 grams of protein!

How to Make Grilled Lamb Chops (with Garlic and Herbs):

(This is only a summary of the steps for the recipe; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe.)

  1. The first photo is the package of lamb chops I got at Costco and they were a pretty good buy for a special meal.
  2. Whisk together vinegar, rosemary, thyme, garlic, olive oil, and pepper to make the marinade.
  3. I trimmed just a little fat on each lamb chop.
  4. Put lamb chops into a Ziploc bag with the marinade and marinate in the fridge for a few hours (or all day while you’re at work.)
  5. When it’s time to cook, drain the lamb chops into a colander and let lamb come to room temperature while you heat the grill.
  6. Put lamb chops on grill, placing them diagonally across the grill grates, and cook until you see nice grill marks, about 4 minutes.
  7. Rotate each lamb chop to go the other way on the grill grates and cook about 4 minutes longer (or until you have nice criss-cross grill marks.)
  8. Turn lamb chops over and cook to your desired doneness, about 2 minutes more for medium rare.
  9. You can use an Instant-Read Meat Thermometer (affiliate link) to check the lamb, most sources recommend 145F/60C for medium rare. Or here’s a good chart with lamb cooking temperatures from The Kitchn.
  10. Let the Grilled Lamb Chops rest for a few minutes after you take them off the grill, then season with sea salt and serve hot.

Make it a Low-Carb Meal:

The Grilled Lamb Chops are shown with Cucumber and Radish Salad with Feta Dressing in the photo, and that was a great combination. They would also taste great with any of these side dishes for a low-carb meal:

  • sea salt to taste to season cooked lamb chops
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 T chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1 T chopped fresh thyme

  5. Preheat gas or charcoal barbecue grill to medium-high heat. (You can only hold your hand there for 2-3 seconds at that heat.)

  7. Rotate each lamb chop to go the opposite way on the grill grates and cook about 4 minutes longer (or until you have nice criss-cross grill marks.)
  8. Turn lamb chops over and cook to your desired doneness, about 2 minutes more for medium rare. (If you want to use an Instant-Read Meat Thermometer (affiliate link) to check the lamb, most sources recommend 145F/60C for medium rare, or here’s a good chart with lamb cooking temperatures from The Kitchn.)
  9. Let the lamb rest for a couple of minutes when you take it off the grill. Then season Grilled Lamb Chops with sea salt to taste and serve hot.

Low-Carb Diet / Low Glycemic Diet / South Beach Diet Suggestions:
Marinated lamb chops cooked on the grill are a perfect choice for low-carb or Keto diets. If you’re following the original South Beach Diet, lamb is a bit high in fat but I would eat this for a treat if you trim the lamb chops to remove most of the fat.

Grilled Chicken with Balsamic Vinegar https://recipeprofessional.com/grilled-chicken-with-balsamic-vinegar/ https://recipeprofessional.com/grilled-chicken-with-balsamic-vinegar/#respond Sat, 23 May 2026 22:41:13 +0000 https://recipeprofessional.com/grilled-chicken-with-balsamic-vinegar/

Balsamic Grilled Chicken is a favorite summer grilling recipe that I’ve loved since the first time I tried it many years ago! And this easy grilled chicken with a balsamic marinade has been a hit with everyone I’ve made it for!

PIN Grilled Chicken with Balsamic Vinegar to try it later!

Grilled Chicken with Balsamic Vinegar close-up photo of chicken on plate with arugula salad.

This amazingly delicious Grilled Chicken with Balsamic Vinegar is the recipe I’m reminding you about for this week’s Friday Favorites pick! And many years ago when I was the teacher’s association president I made this chicken for a district insurance committee meeting. People loved it, and then several years later I saw someone who had eaten it that day and she asked me for the recipe!

If you serve a recipe and someone still remembers it years later, you know it’s a very good recipe, right? This balsamic grilled chicken recipe is still a hit every time I make it. And grilling season is finally here again, which always makes me happy!

This recipe makes enough marinade for eight chicken breasts, making it perfect to make for guests. I encourage you to make the full amount if that works in your household, because leftover chicken is tasty served over salad or tossed into a stir-fry. But even if you opt not to make the full amount, I’m urging you to try this recipe for grilled chicken flavored with balsamic vinegar right away!

What ingredients do you need for this recipe?

(This is only a list of ingredients; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe.)

What vinegar should you use for the Balsamic Grilled Chicken?

You don’t need to use the extra thick, very expensive, imported balsamic vinegar for this recipe. But I wouldn’t buy the cheapest one in the grocery store either. Use a medium quality vinegar that has good flavor.

Is Balsamic Vinegar Grilled Chicken high in carbs?

If you’re strictly watching carbs, you might wonder about using balsamic vinegar, which is an ingredient that has some carbs. But remember that in a marinated chicken recipe like this, you’re only eating the very small amount of marinade that clings to the chicken. If you check the nutritional information you’ll see this tasty chicken has only 3 net carbs per serving and 38 grams of protein!

Tips for Grilled Chicken Breasts:

If you’re not that experienced at cooking chicken on the grill you might want to read my informative post on how to make juicy grilled chicken breasts. That post shows you the grilled chicken method I’ve been using for years.

Can you make Balsamic Grilled Chicken without an outdoor grill?

If you don’t have an outdoor grill or it’s not grilling season, this chicken can cook perfectly on a Stovetop Grill Pan (affiliate link) or a George Foreman Grill (affiliate link). (Remember the George Foreman cooks both sides at once so the grilling time will be shorter!)

How to make Grilled Chicken with Balsamic Vinegar:

(This is only a summary of the steps for the recipe; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe.)

  1. I like to grind the dried parsley, dried shallots (or onions), Spike Seasoning (affiliate link), dried thyme, garlic powder, and black pepper together with a mortar and pestle. That’s optional if you don’t mind a slightly chunkier marinade.
  2. Then mix balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, olive oil, and dried spices to make the marinade.
  3. Trim chicken and make small crosswise slits,
  4. Put chicken in Ziploc bag or plastic container, add the marinade, and let it marinate 4-6 hours (or longer is fine, even all day if you’re going out.)
  5. When you’re ready to cook, drain the chicken to remove excess marinade and let it come to room temperature while you oil and preheat grill.
  6. Lay chicken top side down diagonally to the grill grates and cook a few minutes until you see grill marks.
  7. Then rotate and cook a few minutes more to get those criss-cross marks.
  8. When you have nice grill marks on the top, turn chicken over and cook just until it feels firm (not hard) to the touch, don’t overcook.
  9. Serve Balsamic Grilled Chicken hot, and wait for raves.

Ingredients

  • 8 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 T dried parsley
  • 1 T dried shallots or onion (or 2 T minced fresh shallots or onion)
  • 1 T Spike seasoning (see notes)
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. coarse ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. (Click for step-by-step photos of how to make juicy and perfect grilled chicken breasts.)
  2. If desired, use a mortar and pestle or spice grinder to grind together the dried parsley, dried shallots (or onions), Spike seasoning, dried thyme, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  3. Then mix with the balsamic vinegar, Dijon, olive oil and spices to make the marinade.
  4. Trim all fat and tendons from chicken breasts and trim underneath side if needed so chicken pieces are close to the same thickness. I make small slits crosswise along each chicken breast to help chicken cook more evenly and give more surface for the marinade to stick to.
  5. Place chicken in Ziploc bag or container with a snap-tight lid, laying them flat. Pour the marinade over over chicken and marinate in refrigerator 4-6 hours or more. (Marinating all day is fine if you’re not going to be home.)
  6. When you’re ready to cook, take the chicken out of the fridge, drain it in a colander in the sink to remove excess marinade. Let chicken come to room temperature while you heat the grill.
  7. Oil the grill (a wadded-up paper towel dipped in oil works fine) or spray with non-stick grilling spray; then preheat gas or charcoal grill to medium-high.  (You can only hold your hand there for a few seconds.)
  8. When grill is hot lay chicken diagonally across grill grates, top side down first, and cook until you start to see grill marks, about 3 minutes.
  9. As soon as you see marks, rotate chicken so it’s going diagonally in the other direction and cook a few minutes more.
  10. When you have desired grill marks, turn chicken over and cook until it’s browned on both sides and firm, but not hard to the touch. That’s probably only a few minutes longer on the second side unless your chicken breasts are really thick. (Actual cooking time will vary depending on chicken thickness and how hot your grill is, so remove it from the heat when the chicken feels firm when pressed with your finger.)
  11. This balsamic grilled chicken could also be cooked in a stove-top grill pan with ridges or a George Foreman Grill with good results.

Notes

If you don’t have Spike Seasoning (affiliate link) use another all-purpose seasoning blend;

If you really want to take your homemade burgers up a notch, try using homemade buns! They’re so much better than store-bought and have the best texture. Try these classic hamburger buns or brioche buns if you want to switch things up.

Homemade Big Mac Burger Recipe

Sure, you could just go to McDonald’s, but who wants a burger chock full of fillers that looks nothing like its picture? With this Big Mac burger recipe, you get everything you love about a Big Mac (like the special sauce!) but it’s much better quality. It’s comfort food at its finest and will have you satisfied down to the last bite.

Because, let’s be honest, is there anything better than sinking your teeth into a juicy all-beef patty topped with melty cheese, lettuce, onions, and Big Mac sauce? And let’s not forget that Big Macs have an extra bun in the middle, so the bread to burger ratio is just perfect! My mouth is watering just writing this. Trust me, you’re going to want to add these copycat Big Macs to the dinner lineup this week.

Burger and Sauce Ingredients

Mix all these flavors and textures up, and you’ve got yourself a homemade Big Mac – a tasty tower of yum that’s got a little bit of everything in each bite. Exact measurements are in the recipe card below.

  • Ground Beef: The juicy patty that’s the heart of the Big Mac burger. It’s seasoned and cooked just right for that delicious, meaty taste.
  • Salt and Pepper: Think of these as the flavor boosters. They make the beef taste even better!
  • Sesame Seed Buns: You’ll need 2 bottoms and 1 top per burger.
  • American Cheese: For some cheesy, melty goodness! You can also swap this out for cheddar, pepper jack, colby jack, you name it!
  • Diced White Onion: These are the crispy, kind of spicy bits that add a kick and a satisfying crunch.
  • Shredded Iceberg Lettuce: It’s crisp, it’s light, and it’s there to balance out the richness of the meat and cheese.
  • Dill Pickle Slices: Sour and tangy, these cut through the richness, making sure each bite isn’t too heavy.

Big Mac Sauce:

  • Mayonnaise: The rich and creamy base of the Big Mac sauce.
  • Sweet Pickle Relish: Relish adds a sweet and tangy flavor to the sauce that’s so delicious.
  • White Vinegar: For a little bit of tang.
  • Garlic Powder: Makes the sauce nice and savory.
  • Onion Powder: Another flavor booster!
  • Paprika: Paprika adds a bit of smokiness and gives the Big Mac sauce a bit of kick.
  • Turmeric: For a subtle earthy flavor that pairs well with the other ingredients.

Copycat Big Mac Burger and Sauce Recipe

Delicious, gourmet burgers ready in less than 30 minutes! Big Mac burgers are the perfect hearty meal and something that the whole family will enjoy.

Big Mac Sauce

  1. Whisk Ingredients Together: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, pickle relish, vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and turmeric. Chill in the refrigerator for several hours before serving. This will help the flavors meld together.

For the Burgers

  • Shape: Divide the ground beef evenly into 3-ounce portions and form into balls. Then cover and place in the refrigerator while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  • Heat Skillet: Heat your griddle or cast iron skillet to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Add to Pan: Place two balls of beef on the hot griddle or skillet. You can cook all of the hamburgers at the same time if your griddle will fit them all. Just work quickly because the meat cooks fast.
  • Flatten: Press the ball of meat down with a large flat metal spatula. Get the patty as flat and thin as you can. You’ll be doubling up the patties, so don’t be nervous about a thin patty. It helps to cover the meat with a piece of parchment paper so it doesn’t stick to the spatula.
  • Cook: Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, then assemble.

To Assemble

  • Layer: Add the following ingredients, working from the bottom up: bottom bun, big mac sauce, onion, lettuce, beef patty, cheese, pickles, bottom bun, big mac sauce, onion, lettuce, beef patty, pickles, top bun.
4-photo collage of a burger being assembled.

Tips and Variations

The best part of making homemade Big Mac burgers is getting creative and tailoring them to your liking. Enjoy experimenting with different ingredients and flavors!

  • Quality Beef: Use good quality ground beef for the patty. Lean meat with a bit of fat (80/20 ratio) works well for a juicy and flavorful burger.
  • Press Down Those Patties: While cooking, gently press down on the patties with a spatula to create a crispy exterior.
  • Toasting Buns: Toast the sesame seed buns slightly to enhance their texture and prevent sogginess.
  • Spicy Twist: Add a slice of pepper jack cheese and a drizzle of hot sauce or hot honey for a spicy kick.
  • Different Sauces: Play around with other sauces – chipotle mayo, garlic aioli, or BBQ sauce for a personalized touch.
  • Big Mac Sliders: Make smaller versions using slider buns for a fun party appetizer.

Spreading Big Mac sauce onto a bun.

Storing Leftovers

So, here’s the deal with a homemade Big Mac – it’s best when it’s freshly made. Since it contains ingredients like lettuce, pickles, and Big Mac sauce, it won’t hold up well over an extended period. The lettuce will wilt, the bun will become soggy, and the overall quality just won’t be as good. So enjoy it while it’s hot and fresh!

A top view of all of the ingredients needed to make the mushrooms.
A topview shot of all of the ingredients laid out of a counter for the burger.

How to Make Mushroom Swiss Burgers

These are some of the easiest burgers to make! We’ll start with the mushroom topping and then cook the meat and assemble. Just follow the step-by-step instructions and you’ll see how fast these burgers come together.

For the Mushrooms

  1. Sauté: Heat the butter in a skillet over medium high heat. Add in the mushrooms and shallot, saute for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add Sauce and Garlic: Add in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and salt and pepper. Sauté another 2-3 minutes. Remove the mushrooms from heat and set aside.

For the Burger

  1. Cook the Meat: Place two patties on the hot griddle or skillet and season with salt and pepper. You can cook all of the hamburgers at the same time if your griddle will fit them all.
  2. Add Cheese: Cook the burgers 2-3 minutes on each side, placing a slice of the Swiss cheese on the patty once it’s been flipped. Once the patties are cooked, butter and toast the buns on the same skillet.
  3. Assemble: Start by spreading mayonnaise on the bottom and top bun, place the patty with the Swiss cheese on the bottom bun, spread a generous helping of the mushrooms on top of the patty, top the burger with the top bun.

Tips and Variations

Here are some suggestions to keep in mind when you are making the best burgers. You will love how simple these mushroom Swiss burgers come together!

  • Keep it Cold and Do Not Over-Mix: For juicy beef, keep it cold so that the fat doesn’t melt before cooking. Over-mixing the meat will break down fibers causing your burger to crumble and become dry.
  • Don’t Press: When cooking the patties, resist the urge to press down on the meat. This squeezes out all those lovely juices that are meant to be inside.
  • Let it Rest: Let the hamburger rest for 5-10 minutes after cooking to allow the juices to distribute throughout the patty.
  • Using a Grill: To grill your patties, heat your grill up to medium high (400-425 degrees Fahrenheit). Once your grill is up to temp, brush grates with some olive oil. Then place your patties onto your grill and cover. Cook for about 4 minutes on each side. They should temp out between 135-145 degrees Fahrenheit for medium burgers or 155-160 degrees Fahrenheit for well done.
  • More Cheese: You can melt 2 slices of Swiss cheese on each patty, if you like more cheese.
  • Different Protein: This recipe works great swapping the regular patty out for a turkey or veggie burger!

The top view of a mushroom burger without the top bun.

Storing Leftovers

I recommend enjoying these burgers fresh, but you can store any leftovers for a quick lunch or dinner the next day.

  • In the Refrigerator: Store cooked patties and mushrooms in separate airtight containers or sealed bags for up to 3 days.
  • In the Freezer: Leftover patties can be kept in a freezer bag for 2-3 months. I recommend putting parchment paper between each patty so they don’t stick together. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
  • Reheating: Reheat your burgers over the stove on medium heat until warmed through or pop them in the oven for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, flipping halfway through the cooking time.

Reasons this Grilled Bourbon Chicken is the BEST!

  • It uses chicken thighs (AKA it’s packed with flavor!): Not only does this make it more affordable, but the FLAVOR is to die for!
  • Tender and juicy: This marinade will tenderize the meat so that it’s so juicy and incredibly flavorful.
  • Sweet and tangy: Love both flavors? This recipe is for you! Even if you’re not a fan of drinking bourbon, you will LOVE the marinade with its perfectly balanced sweet, savory and tangy flavor!
  • Perfect for a BBQ: Serve this with a delicious summer salad, veggies, and some fruit for the perfect backyard BBQ meal!

Ingredients in Grilled Bourbon Chicken

This grilled bourbon chicken recipe only requires a handful of simple ingredients. Once you whip up the marinade and let your chicken sit for about an hour, you’re on your way to juicy, flavorful chicken! Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

  • Chicken: Boneless skinless chicken thighs will have a richer, more intense flavor than chicken breast, but either can be used.
  • Bourbon Whiskey: Any brand of bourbon works and will add wonderful flavor. It will also break down the enzymes in the meat, yielding tender, juicy chicken.
  • Brown Sugar: For a bit of sweetness and caramelization when grilled.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: It’s important to include some acid in your marinade to tenderize the meat. Plus, apple cider vinegar has a bright flavor that mellows any harshness from the bourbon.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Has a mix of vinegar, garlic, chiles, molasses and more to give the chicken an incredible umami taste.
  • Garlic: Freshly minced garlic for infusing the meat with wonderful savory flavor!
  • Salt and Pepper: To season the chicken.

How to Perfectly Grill Bourbon Chicken

Bourbon chicken is easy to make and packs a big punch of flavor! Plan ahead for the marinating time, and you will be eating a delicious meal in no time! Don’t have a grill? Make my bourbon chicken or shrimp in a skillet in no time!

  1. Make the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the whiskey, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  2. Marinate: Pour the marinade into a sealable bag, add the chicken thighs to the bag, and seal it shut. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least an hour.
  3. Prep: While the chicken is marinating, heat a grill up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. When the chicken is ready, remove it from the marinade and discard the marinade.
  4. Grill: Brush the grill with oil and grill the chicken breasts for about 3-4 minutes per side. The internal temperature of the breasts should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit, but don’t overcook the chicken.
  5. Rest: Remove the grilled chicken from the grill and place on a clean plate to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Tips and Variations

Here are some of our top tips for grilling bourbon chicken thighs, so that they’re juicy and cooked to perfection!

  • Use Chicken Breast: You can use boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe, or even chicken wings just be sure to adjust the grill time and make sure the chicken is cooked all the way through before enjoying!
  • Clean the Grill: We recommend cleaning your grill before starting. Heat it up, and then clean it off using a brush or a grill cleaning spray.
  • Be Patient: It’s best to leave the meat cooking in one place and then flip it over to finish cooking it through. If the meat is sticking to the grill, then leave it and it will unstick after it is finished cooking.
  • Don’t Press the Meat: When grilling it is tempting to lay the spatula on top of the meat and press it down. Avoid doing this because all the fat and juiciness that adds flavor will seep out.
  • Let it Rest: Once grilled, let the chicken rest for at least 5 minutes before cutting into it. This will allow all of the juices to distribute throughout the meat.
  • Check the Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the chicken before you eat it. You can safely remove it from the grill once the internal temperature reaches anywhere from 155-157 degrees Fahrenheit. As it rests it will continue to cook and reach 160 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Serving: This grilled chicken is perfect for dicing and adding to a salad like this Teriyaki Spinach Pasta Salad or serve it with your favorite sides like parmesan garlic grilled broccoli or our easy crockpot mashed potatoes and don’t forget the dinner rolls!

Fresh and delicious Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad is a crowd-pleasing hearty salad with tender grilled chicken, crisp romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, shredded parmesan cheese, and crunchy croutons!

Reasons to Make This Salad

  • It’s so filling: This chicken Caesar salad includes vegetables, lean protein, and many essential vitamins and minerals. It’s one of those salads that will fuel you for hours.
  • So delicious: The combination of crisp romaine, juicy tomatoes, flavorful chicken, delicious parmesan cheese, and crunchy croutons creates a mouthwatering flavor profile that’s a hit with almost everyone.

Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

This grilled chicken Caesar salad is my favorite refreshing meal when the weather starts to warm up! I’ve always been a huge fan of a good classic Caesar salad, but this one with juicy, flavor-packed grilled chicken and juicy tomatoes is on a whole new level.

It’s actually pretty easy to make, too! Let the chicken marinate in Caesar dressing to add plenty of that delicious Caesar flavor. Then, once the chicken is grilled, everything comes together in minutes. Serve it alone or with some crusty buttered sourdough bread on the side.

Ingredients in Chicken Caesar Salad

This grilled chicken salad recipe is the absolute best! The ingredients are simple and come together with very little effort. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

Chicken

  • Caesar Dressing: You can use store-bought dressing, but we highly recommend this homemade Caesar Dressing. It’s perfectly creamy with incredible flavor!
  • Olive Oil: Smooths out the marinade and adds some necessary fat for juicy grilled chicken.
  • Lemon Juice: All good marinades have just enough acidity to tenderize the meat.
  • Salt & Pepper: Brings out all of the delicious flavor.
  • Chicken Breasts: These will marinate in the dressing for at least 1 hour making them tender, juicy and full of flavor.
Top view of ingredients for chicken marinade.

Salad

  • Romaine: Chopped romaine adds bright green color and makes the salad fresh and crisp.
  • Cherry Tomatoes: For juicy bursts of sweetness.
  • Croutons: I love using my homemade croutons to add plenty of crunchy texture.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Add shredded or shaved parmesan cheese for a bit of nutty sharpness that enhances the flavor of the dressing.
  • Caesar Dressing: You can’t have a Caesar salad without Caesar Dressing! It adds the most wonderful briny, tangy and rich taste.
  • Black Pepper: Freshly cracked black pepper is the perfect finishing touch!
Top view of labeled ingredients for the salad.

How to Make a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

Just five simple steps and you’re well on your way to the best salad of your life! This is one of those salads that even the kids will love. It’s that good! Here’s the easy process of how everything comes together:

For the chicken

  1. Make the Marinade: In a large sealable bag or container, mix together the Caesar dressing, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt and pepper.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Add the chicken breasts to the bag or container and coat each breast evenly. Place the chicken in the fridge to marinate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Grill: Heat a grill up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the chicken is ready, remove it from the marinade and grill for about 6-8 minutes on each side. Discard the marinade.

For the salad.

  1. Slice Chicken: Once the chicken is grilled, let it rest at least 5 minutes before slicing into ½ inch strips.
  2. Assemble and Toss Salad: To a large bowl add the chopped romaine, cherry tomatoes, croutons, parmesan cheese, sliced chicken and caesar dressing, top with freshly cracked black pepper and toss.

Tips and Variations

With a joining of fresh ingredients and a flavorful, creamy salad dressing, this is definitely my new favorite salad recipe! Here are some helpful tips and ways to make it your own!

  • Using Homemade Dressing: I like to use my homemade dressing, but a store-bought dressing works just as well! The same goes for the croutons.
  • Marinating the Chicken: Your chicken can marinate for up to 4 hours, but 1 hour is sufficient. If you’re in a hurry, even 30 minutes will be okay, but not quite as good.
  • Salad Greens: Romaine is classic in Caesar salads; however, any favorite greens will work. You can even use a combination of several varieties.
  • Precooked Chicken: You can totally use pre-cooked chicken or rotisserie chicken for this recipe, but what makes it special is the marinated grilled chicken.

A close up of grilled chicken caesar salad in a bowl being scooped with a wooden spoon.

Make Ahead & Storing Leftovers

  • Make Ahead: Get a head start by making the dressing and grilling the chicken a day or two ahead, and store each separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. You can also chop the lettuce and tomatoes beforehand. Then, when it comes time to serve, pull everything out of the fridge, assemble, and enjoy!
  • Leftovers: Once the salad is tossed, it’s best enjoyed the day it’s made, but you can keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. It’s best to store the dressing separately from the salad.

Fire up your grill because these grilling basics will give you all the confidence you need! Discover how easy it is to cook and make incredible food on an outdoor grill.

Grilling isn’t just for burgers and steaks! There are so many delicious ways to use a grill. Try these shrimp skewers, the most incredible grilled pineapple, or simply grill up some zucchini!

Reasons to Start Grilling

  • You’ll Love This Beginner’s Guide: I’m here to help you feel confident on the grill! I walk you through all the grilling basics you need to know.
  • It’s Tasty: Grilling is one of my favorite ways to cook! It makes meat taste succulent and vegetables super tender. There are SO many recipes that can only be made on a grill.
  • Outdoor Entertaining: Summertime to me means hosting BBQ parties and grilling! I love cooking in the outdoors and enjoying the weather with friends and family.

What to Know Before You Grill

Grilling involves cooking food over an open flame, and with so many types of grills available, it’s helpful to know the basics for any grill you use. Here are some essential tips, especially for beginners. We’ll focus on the most common household grills: propane and gas grills.

  1. Prepare the Recipe: Get everything ready before you even think about lighting the grill. If your recipe includes marinating meat, make sure to allow enough time for the flavors to infuse. Form your burger patties, season your chicken, or thread your skewers in advance. Having everything prepped ensures you won’t be scrambling while the grill is hot and ready.
  2. Check the Propane Tank: Before you begin grilling, ensure your propane tank is full and properly connected. If your grill won’t start and the tank is empty, you can exchange it for a full one at most hardware stores or gas stations for a small fee. They typically have filled propane tanks ready for exchange.
  3. Clean the Grill: For optimal performance, start with a clean grill. Use a grill brush to scrub the grates thoroughly. This not only keeps your food safe but also helps the grill function properly. For detailed cleaning instructions, refer to the manufacturer’s manual.
  4. Oil the Grates: To prevent food from sticking, oil the grill grates before you start cooking. Use tongs to hold a paper towel dipped in olive or canola oil and rub it over the grates.
  5. Preheat the Grill: Make sure to preheat your grill with the lid closed before you begin cooking. This ensures the grill reaches the right temperature, allowing your food to cook evenly and efficiently.

How to Check the Temperature of Your Outdoor Grill

The hand check for an outdoor grill is a simple method to estimate the grill’s temperature without a thermometer. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Heat the Grill: Preheat your grill to the desired temperature.
  2. Hold Your Hand Above the Grill: Place your hand about 4-5 inches above the grill grate.
  3. Count the Seconds: Count how many seconds you can comfortably hold your hand in place before needing to pull it away.

Here are the approximate temperatures based on the time you can hold your hand over the grill:

  • 2-3 seconds: High heat (450°F to 550°F or 230°C to 290°C)
  • 4-5 seconds: Medium heat (350°F to 450°F or 175°C to 230°C)
  • 6-7 seconds: Medium-low heat (325°F to 350°F or 165°C to 175°C)
  • 8-10 seconds: Low heat (250°F to 325°F or 120°C to 165°C)

This method gives you a rough estimate to help ensure your grill is at the right temperature for cooking.

Before firing up your grill, make sure you have the right tools ready. The type of tool you need depends on what you’re grilling. Here’s a list of the most common tools and when to use them:

  • Skewers: Use wood or metal skewers for grilling. Both work well, but if you use wood skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before threading meat, veggies, or fruit. This prevents them from burning or becoming brittle.
  • Meat Thermometer: Invest in a reliable meat thermometer to ensure your meat is cooked to the right temperature. Wireless thermometers are especially convenient and easy to use.
  • Tongs: Strong metal tongs are essential for grilling and flipping meats like steak and chicken. They’re also great for handling brats, ribs, and hot dogs.
  • Metal Spatula: A large metal spatula is perfect for flipping burgers.
  • Basting Brush: A basting brush is useful for applying sauces or marinades while cooking. It’s particularly handy for recipes like grilled huli huli chicken.

Labeled tools for using on the grill.

Grilling Tips For Beginners

I want you to be successful at grilling so you can enjoy summer dinners outside! Here are my helpful tips for beginners.

  • Don’t Flip Too Often: Be careful not to flip steak too often. You want the grill marks to give the steak the perfect outer crust. I’m also careful when flipping burgers. I find it causes them to shrink more and not cook as evenly. Flipping burgers too much can also cause the beef to crumble.
  • Allow the Meat to Rest: Giving your meat time to rest after it comes off the grill is important. The muscle fibers need time to relax and for the juices to redistribute throughout the meat. Your meat will be so TENDER!
  • Meat Thermometer: Know the temperatures to cook your meat to. Invest in a good meat thermometer that can measure the correct temperature of your meat.
  • Heat Zones on the Grill: Heat a portion of the grill to a higher heat and another zone on medium or low. This creates a hot and cooler zone for cooking. It also creates a place to quickly move the meat to a cooler zone if it’s starting to burn or cook too fast. This is also known as direct heat and indirect heat.

Marinade vs. Rub (Seasoning)

Grilling meat is a popular way to enjoy your outdoor grill, and how you prepare the meat is entirely up to you! Most people choose between marinating their meat or applying a dry rub. Marinating adds flavor and makes the meat incredibly tender, while a dry rub creates a flavorful crust. Both methods are delicious, and if you want to try both, you have to try my famous steak marinade or this chicken seasoning!

Meat Temperature and Grilling Time

Understanding how long to cook your meat is essential for perfect grilling. To help, I’ve created a handy temperature guide for steak that includes cooking times and visual cues for doneness. This makes it easier to achieve your preferred level of doneness. Here are additional recommended temperatures for other meats:

  • Chicken: Cook to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Fish: Cook to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  • Pork: Cook to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) and allow it to rest for at least 3 minutes.

Recipe Ideas to Grill Up!

Grilling isn’t just for meat! There are so many ways to use your grill and you’re going to love these ideas. I always look forward to these summertime grill recipes!

  • Skewers: Skewers hold meat, veggies, and fruit pieces perfectly! If you use wood skewers, soak them for 30 minutes before using them. This prevents the skewers from burning. Try these steak skewers or our favorite Hawaiian teriyaki skewers!
  • Fruit: Grilling fruit makes it tender and enhances the sweetness. Try grilling this Grilled Pineapple or these peaches and serving them with ice cream!
  • Vegetables: Tender-grilled veggies are my favorite, especially in the summer when my garden is bursting. These vegetables are the perfect side dish and my kids love these fun vegetable kabobs!
  • Foil Packets: We love to make foil packets in the summer! Everyone can make their packet just the way they like it. It’s a perfect dinner for when you don’t want to heat the kitchen with the oven. These shrimp packets or these easy potato foil packets are delicious!

Ingredients to Make Burgers Flavorful

Sure, you could just grab some meat and grill it up! But if you want to LOVE your burger, you need to season it first!!

  • Ground Beef: I used 80/20 lean ground beef. Higher fat content makes a juicier burger!

How to Make the Best Burger Patty

This is definitely a great go-to recipe when you are in charge of hosting the next family BBQ. It’s easy to throw together, especially if you ever need to make plenty to feed everyone!

Burgers

  1. Prepare the Grill: Heat up your grill to medium-high heat while you prepare the patties.
  2. Combine: Add the ground beef and seasonings to a large bowl and mix to combine.
  3. Shape Patties: Shape the patties to be about 1-inch thick, making an indention in the center of each patty. This creates a flat burger and prevents the middle from mounding as it cooks.
  4. Cook: Place the burgers on the grill. Allow this side of the patty to cook for about 4-6 minutes, but make sure it doesn’t burn. Flip them over and cook to the desired doneness.

Secret Sauce

  1. Combine: Add all of the sauce ingredients to a small bowl and whisk to combine. Taste and adjust ingredients to your liking.
  2. Toppings: Assemble the burgers and serve with the special sauce and all of your favorite hamburger toppings!

How Do I Know When a Burger is Done?

The temperature of ground beef is ready to eat when it reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit. You can check this by using a meat thermometer!

Burger Topping Ideas

This best burger and secret sauce would not be complete without delicious toppings! Here are some ideas on what you can use on a hamburger:

  • Lettuce: I think the best lettuce for burgers is iceberg lettuce or butter lettuce.
  • Tomatoes: Beefsteak tomatoes are the heartiest tomatoes and are perfect for a burger!
  • Cheese: I like to use Sharp cheddar or melted American cheese.
  • Pickles: You can use Dill or bread and butter pickles, depending on which flavor you like.
  • Onions: Try freshly sliced red onions or even some caramelized onions
  • Bacon: It adds in a yummy flavor!
  • Mushrooms: I like to sautée my mushrooms before adding them to a burger.
  • Avocado: You can use avocado slices or whip up some fresh guacamole.
  • Egg: I know it sounds strange, but trust me on this one: there is nothing like a fried egg on a burger!
  • Jalapeños: Add a few jalapeño slices for a spicy kick.
  • Sauce: Want to change up the sauce? Try barbecue sauce or fry sauce!

Tips for Making a Good Burger

There are so many different ways to cook a burger. This recipe is all about grilling them on your BBQ so you can get that smokey charbroiled taste. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when you are preparing your burgers for your next meal!

  • Make sure that you prepare your toppings before cooking the burgers so they are all ready to go as soon as the burgers come off the grill
  • Remember to shape your patties about 1” wider so that the buns will help because once they are on the grill, they will shrink.
  • Do not overwork the meat
  • It helps if you make an indentation in the center of the patty to prevent it from rising and plumping in the middle.
  • Seasoning the burgers with salt and pepper right before you place them on the grill helps toughen the meat
  • When you place the patties on the grill, let them sear well and brown(takes about 3-5 mins) before you flip them and do not press down on the burger.

Sides for Your Burger

As far as sides go, there are a variety of things that pair well with a burger. You can choose fries, chips, salad, green or potato, a fruit salad, fresh veggies, and whatever else you love having at your BBQs!

Grilling recipes are some of the best! They are easy, quick to prepare and have the best smoky flavor. I love to pair this grilled tilapia with grilled sides like grilled zucchini, grilled Mexican street corn and this fresh grilled caesar salad!

Reasons You Will Love This Recipe

  • Quick and Simple: Making grilled tilapia is so easy and can be ready to serve in just over 30 minutes including marinating time.
  • Light and Filling: Fish is a great source of lean protein and includes essential healthy fats.
  • Versatile: This is the perfect dinner that pairs with EVERYTHING!
  • Filled with Bright Flavors: Fresh lemon and garlic create the best flavors combined with the smokiness of grilling. You will love the taste and texture of this fish!

What You Need to Make Grilled Tilapia

You’ll only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this super tasty grilled tilapia! They come together for tender tilapia that will rival even the best seafood restaurant! The complete list of ingredients and measurements are listed in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Fresh Lemon Juice: Lemon adds fresh flavor to almost any grilled fish.
  • Olive Oil: Provides the marinade with a bit of fat and also is used for cooking the filets on the grill.
  • Garlic: Minced fresh garlic adds a delicious savory taste.
  • Seasoning: A simple blend of fresh ground black pepper, salt and mustard powder brings out all of the flavor in the fish.
  • Tilapia Filets: This recipe calls for 4 tilapia filets to feed 4 people.
Top view of all of the ingredients laid out individually and labeled.

How to Make Grilled Tilapia

Tilapia is one of the easiest proteins to grill! Marinate the fish for about 30 minutes, and then grill it for less than 12 minutes. You will want to make this recipe all season long!

  1. Make the Marinade: Whisk together the lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, black pepper, salt, and mustard powder to prepare the marinade.
  2. Marinate the Fish: Pour the marinade into a large sealable bag or container and place the tilapia filets into the container. Marinate the tilapia for 30 minutes to an hour. While the filets are marinating, preheat a grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Grill: Once the tilapia filets are ready, remove them from the marinade. Brush the grill with olive oil and grill the filets for 4-6 minutes per side. The filets should easily come off the grill, if they are sticking give them another 1-2 minutes.
  4. Serve: Remove the grilled tilapia from the grill and enjoy!

How to Know When Tilapia is Cooked

You’ll know your fish is cooked through when it’s completely opaque. However, you definitely don’t want to overcook it, or it will become dry. Additionally, you can use a meat thermometer to check and see if it has an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tips for Grilling Tilapia

Here are a few things to keep in mind when grilling tilapia. They are simple tips, but will ensure your fish turns out perfect!

  • Serving Options: This dish goes great with rice, couscous and your favorite vegetable side like grilled asparagus!
  • Thaw Filets: If using frozen, be sure they are thawed before you marinate. Thaw overnight in the fridge or place packaged frozen filets in cold water for about 10 minutes.
  • Discard the Marinade: Be sure to discard the used marinade after using.
  • Cook Time: The fillets I used were a little on the thicker side, so about 5 minutes was perfect. If your fillets are thinner, reduce the time.

Close up of grilled tilapia.

How to Store Leftover Tilapia

Although grilled tilapia is best served right away, here’s how to store leftovers to enjoy them later!

  • In the Refrigerator: Once it has cooled, then place it in an airtight container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Put it in your fridge, and your fish will stay good for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating: The quickest way to reheat your grilled tilapia is in the air fryer for a couple of minutes at 350 degrees. You can also reheat it over medium heat on the stove with a little melted butter in the pan.

How to Make Burger Sauce

This irresistible burger sauce is ready to serve in just about 5 minutes! It’s so good, you’re going to want to keep this on-hand at all times! Want a BBQ burger sauce? Make my copycat Red Robbin campfire sauce!

  1. Mix Ingredients: Add all of the sauce ingredients to a small bowl and whisk to combine.
  2. Test the Flavor: Taste and adjust ingredients to your liking if needed.
  3. Refrigerate: Chill until ready to serve. The longer it chills the more the flavors meld.
  4. Enjoy: Use as a sauce on burgers or as a dipping sauce for fries.

Change up the Flavor

Burger sauce can be made just the way you like it! Here are some ideas to adjusting the flavors.

  • Mayonnaise Substitution: It is best to enjoy the thick, rich texture of real mayonnaise but substitute it for Miracle Whip or a veganaise mayo for a preferred taste.
  • Adjust the Sweetness: If you like your burger sauce a little sweeter, add a pinch of granulated sugar. It will help balance out the salty, tangy flavor.
  • Heat: Make this burger sauce spicy if you want! Try adding a dash or two of hot sauce like Tabasco sauce. You can also sprinkle in some cayenne pepper to bring on some extra heat.

Storing Leftovers

Be sure to save any leftover sauce! This burger sauce is so versatile and can be used for more than just burgers. My kids love this sauce with a quick and easy batch of air fryer French fries!

  • In the Refrigerator: Store burger sauce in an airtight jar or container for 4-5 days. Give it a quick stir before using it!
